Assessing Circular Pastoral Dairy Systems in Ireland and New Zealand
Summary
This desk study will use life cycle assessment (LCA) to assess the carbon footprint of an average dairy farm in Ireland and New Zealand against comparative scenarios which integrate circular practices, including by-products used as feed or fertiliser sources.
Objectives
- To use LCA to calculate the footprint of an average dairy farm in Ireland and New Zealand
- To develop alternative dairy scenarios which incorporate circular practices, in farm feed, fertiliser and energy
- To use LCA to understand the environmental impact of improving on-farm circular systems .
